Eastwood Preview Round 10

By Paul Treanor Grade

Round 10 this Saturday at T G Millner provides a smorgasbord of rugby with plenty of tries on the menu and hard hitting defence on the menu. This week’s opponent is the Penrith club who are not travelling well in any grade and all Eastwood teams have a great opportunity to take full points from their games. The main danger this week will be taking the opposition for granted and not applying our game plan. All in all there should be a feast of tries to excite all Eastwood supporters and fans of running rugby. Eastwood are in second place on the Club Championship and will be looking to consolidate its position with maximum wins on the weekend. We are 78 points behind Sydney University and as we don’t play them a second time this season we can only look to win as many games as we can and keep University looking over their shoulder. The results this round will help keep the pressure on them.

4th Grade – 3rd place

Last round results saw Eastwood consolidate its position at the top end of the table in 4th grade. Last round 39 to 0 win over Warringah was their second game in three rounds where they have kept the opposition scoreless. A testament to their defence and discipline. With Competition leaders Sydney University, losing to Randwick last round Eastwood is now only three points behind them. This week fifth place Manly play Sydney University and another loss by the students and a bonus point win by Eastwood would see Eastwood leap frog University on the table.

Penrith have only two wins this season, both coming in the last three games. They beat Manly 27 to 13 and last round beat Parramatta 22 to 14. These results show they can’t be taken too lightly and the Eastwood team will need to be on their game to keep their winning streak going. Eastwood haven’t lost since round 2 and should take maximum points from this week’s game.

3rd Grade – 2nd place

The win last round and with other favourable results 3rd grade have advanced one place on the ladder. The table still remains tight with Sydney University only four points ahead of Eastwood and Randwick only two points behind in third place. Again the Sydney University Manly (currently fourth) game will have an impact on the ladder come Saturday night,

The opposition this week have not registered a point this year and lost 56 to 5 to Parramatta last round. The Eastwood team will be looking to make it eight wins on the trot and take maximum points.

2nd Grade – 3rd place

Eastwood win against Warringah last round was their fifth win in a row and consolidated their third place on the ladder. Again the Manly Sydney University game will have a bearing on the table with Manly currently leading the competition while University are in fourth place.

By only allowing a penalty goal to be scored against them last round they are combining sparkling attack and solid defence to produce a winning formula. This week their opposition have had over 400 points scored against them this season and have only won one game. The way both teams have been performing we can expect another win to the home side with plenty of tries.

1st Grade -1st place

Eastwood returned to the winners list with an 11 point win over Warringah. With Southern Districts win over Manly, Eastwood are now six points clear at the top of the table. The coach was happier with their effort last week but there is still room for improvement. Penrith have had a couple of close losses recently and was still looking to cause an upset against a more fancied team to record their first win of the season. Eastwood as competition leaders can expect all teams they play lifting to try and knock them off. Penrith will be no exception and Eastwood will need to ignore Penrith’s place on the table and play to the game plan formulated by their coach. With Eastwood playing to their ability and the inclusion of Super Rugby players McCaffrey and Snowden we can expect to see punishing defence and exhilarating attack that will keep the score board ticking over for the full 80 minutes.

So get down to T G Millner Oval this Saturday to watch our four grade teams play the Eastwood style and to spend another enjoyable day of rugby. Colts

Eastwood Colts Firsts and Seconds play away this Saturday. Penrith do not have a third grade Colt side and so our thirds get another week off and will remain in third place.

Seconds continued on their wining way with an impressive 71 to 0 win over Warringah last round. The win puts them three points behind competition leaders Sydney University. This week’s opposition are yet to register a point for the season and lost last week 0 to 52 against Parramatta. A focused performance should see them get the full five points on offer.

Firsts loss to Warringah last round saw them drop back to equal fifth on the ladder. They need to get back on the winners list this week against a side who has not achieved a single point this season. A win is important to the team keeping in touch with the competition leaders. A more consistent performance from the whole team this week should see them gain maximum points.
