Preview Round 8 2013

Eastwood Preview Round 8

By Paul Treanor

Eastwood is again at home this Saturday hosting Eastern Suburbs who all won all grades against Parramatta last week ensuring another great day of entertaining rugby.

The club championship remains tight with every win needed to consolidate our position. Last week we had five wins from five games with Colts seconds and thirds having byes. This weekend we have all teams playing and a good chance of taking full points from the round.

4th Grade

After last week’s 52 to 0 win over Gordon 4th Grade are 3rd outright on the ladder. This week they take on 6th place Easts who also had a clean defensive sheet last round with a 20 to 0 win over Parramatta. It should be an interesting encounter with two teams capable of holding their opposition scoreless.

3rd Grade

With their win over Gordon last round 3rd Grade retain 3rd spot on the ladder just 2 points behind Randwick and four points behind the competition leaders, University. This week they are up against 5th placed Easts who defeated Parramatta last week 36 to 12. Eastwood’s emphatic win over Gordon last week should see them continue on their winning way, although they cannot afford to take Eastern Suburbs lightly.

2nd Grade

As predicted a win last week has moved 2nd Grade up into equal 3rd position with Northern Suburbs, while University is just one point behind in 5th. This week they take on Easts who had only their second win of the season last weekend and are lying in 9th place on the ladder. Easts accounted for Parramatta 50 to 28 and will be looking to make it two wins in a row. Eastwood will need to make sure they put Easts away and not let them back into the game if they are to take the points.

1st Grade

Eastwood first grade continued on their winning way against Gordon and with Southern Districts suffering their first defeat of the season now find themselves alone on top of the table. This week it is 9th placed Eastern Suburbs turn to try and break their winning streak of seven straight victories. Easts accounted for Parramatta last round 40 to 31 which shows they can score points along with the best of them. It should be another absorbing game with the prospect of scintillating tries and hard hitting defence wetting the appetite of any running rugby lover.

Colts

Eastwood Colts travel to Woollahra Oval this Saturday for games against Eastern Suburbs. Both thirds and seconds had byes last week so it will be interesting to see if that equates to a benefit. Thirds are equal third with Easts so the game should be an interesting contest. Last week Easts lost 22 – 3 against Parramatta.

Seconds are currently running 5th in a very close competition. There opposition this week are in equal 3rd just 1 point ahead of Eastwood. A win here and other results going Eastwood way could see them second come Saturday night.

Firsts had their third win of the season last week beating Gordon 31 to 20. They are currently in 6th place while Easts are running 9th with only two wins to their name. Easts were also winners last week defeating Parramatta 18 to 15 so both teams should be keen to secure the win to keep their season alive.
