Preview Round 9 2013

Eastwood Preview Round 9

By Paul Treanor Round 9 is shaping up to be an important round across for all our teams. While Eastwood travel to Pittwater Rugby Park this Saturday to take on Warringah, Randwick are playing Sydney University and Southern Districts have an important first grade clash with Manly. Results this weekend will have a bearing on the various tables and so Eastwood will need to be on their game in each contest if they are to take the points from Warringah and maintain or improve their position on their respective ladder. While our grade sides are playing away from home and are looking for a continuation of the fine support they have been getting, those of you who can’t make it to Rat Park can come down to T G Millner and watch the colts go round.

4th Grade

The win last week against Eastern Suburbs makes it six straight wins and has Eastwood in 3rd place just two points behind Randwick and six behind competition leaders University. With these two clubs playing each other this weekend a win against Warringah will see Eastwood making a move up the ladder. Their opposition are placed 7th and had only their third win of the season last Saturday with a 26 to 10 win over Parramatta.

3rd Grade

The top of the 3rd Grade ladder is almost a carbon copy of 4th Grade with Eastwood sitting in 3rdplace three points behind Randwick and five behind the competition leaders, University. A victory over Warringah could see them move into 2nd place. 3rd Grade have won their last six games and continue to impress. Warringah on the other hand are not travelling that well in 2nd last place with a single win against their name. The danger will be taking the game too easy as any team can get under the guard and spring a surprise.

2nd Grade

A win over Eastern Suburbs last Saturday sees 2nd Grade in outright 3rd place on the competition ladder. Saturday’s win was their 4th in a row and the team is starting to build some momentum. Warringah are running 7th with three wins and a draw. They have won their last two games and will be looking to make it three in a row. Last week they had a three point victory over Parramatta. Eastwood will need to apply the pressure for the full game to take the points. With Sydney University just a point behind them on the ladder they can’t afford to take Warringah too lightly.

1st Grade

Eastwood’s winning run was finally brought to an end last week with Eastern Suburbs hanging on to take the points. Despite this loss Eastwood still retains 1st place after Southern Districts suffered their second defeat in a row. The ladder is bunching up with only six points separating the top five sides adding to the need to keep winning if Eastwood is to remain a contender this year. This week’s opponent, Warringah had a 30 point loss against Parramatta in last week’s match of the day and will be looking to bounce back with a win at home. They have had mixed results this season having won just three games placing them in 10th spot on the ladder, 8 points behind 5th spot. They are not a team to be taken lightly with wins this year over Randwick and University showing they are capable of beating the top sides. Eastwood will need to take heed of what the coach has been saying over the last four weeks and apply it for the full 80 minutes. The game shapes up to be a great contest from two teams looking to get back into the winners circle.

Colts

Eastwood Colts play at home this Saturday and the three games against Warringah should provide an enjoyable afternoon of rugby.

Thirds came off the bye a little flat and lost 14 to 24 last Saturday against Eastern Suburbs. They are now equal 5th and playing 7th placed Warringah who are only one win behind Eastwood. Both teams are evenly placed and should produce a great game of rugby.

Seconds have only lost one game this year and their impressive win over Easts last Saturday saw them jump one place on the ladder to 4th only three points behind the joint competition leaders. This week they take on 10th placed Warringah who have not won since the first round. With the joint competition leaders playing each other this weekend a win will see Eastwood improve their position on the ladder.

Firsts jumped two places to equal 4th with their emphatic 46 to 17 win over Easts last Saturday. They are currently 4 and 4 and need to start putting a string of wins together if they are to improve their position on the table. They have won their last two games and need to make it three from three this weekend. Their opposition have won 3 games this season and although only one less than Eastwood are back in 9th place showing the tightness of the competition. Like Eastwood they have won their last two games and will want to keep winning so they can move up the ladder. The winner of this game will be the team that wants to win the most on the day. It should be an intense battle as the match of the day at T G Millner.
