Pappy made a Life Member of Sydney Rugby

Club President Brett Papworth has today been honored by Sydney Rugby Union with

induction as a Life Member

Pappy the footballer was as good a rugby player as we've produced. But despite his own outstanding ability, every Saturday for decades he's stood on the hill at TG and cheered on the Woodies, always words of encouragement for the players, never critical. Endless presentation nights all over the country, he's given freely of his time all for the good of the game. Always humble about his talent, quick to deflect praise to others.

The video is terrible but watch the 1986 Bledisloe Cup and see just how good a footy player he was. (This was by the way, the last time we won the Bledisloe in NZ - Pappy was the Man of the Match and his prize was a toaster - different days. Watch here)

There'd be a few older supporters who recall that terrible day when we saw big Artie Beetson, pie in hand, walking over to the Grandstand just before 1st grade kicked off - and then we knew the rumors were true...
