Vale JOHN PHILLIPS

Older Club members will be saddened to hear of the death of John Phillips, one of the great “characters” of Eastwood Rugby from the sixties. John was educated at Marist Brothers Eastwood and played for the juniors and then grade from 1965 until 1968. As well as a fine fullback, John was also an accomplished leg spin bowler, making his first grade debut for Northern Districts in 1961. John toured Fiji with the Club in 1966 and enjoyed many other country trips. After a particularly late night in Armidale in 1965, he had trouble fielding the ball. He laughingly claimed to be the only player ever sent from the field by his captain. He will be sorely missed.
